According to one of the developers of God of War Ragnarok, the goal of creating side quests and other additional content was to surpass the quality of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
While there has already been a lot of hype around God of War Ragnarok, it’s safe to say that many are looking forward to the release of the game even more, as reviews indicate that it has reached the high bar set by its 2018 predecessor. Many can’t wait to dive into the God of War Ragnarok main storyline and find out what happens to Kratos and Atreus on their new journey, but fans should take the time to check out the side content as well.
God of War Ragnarok developer Anthony Dimento responded to The Washington Post’s review of the game, specifically a quote about side quests. The Washington Post claimed that God of War Ragnarok overtook The Witcher 3 for the best side missions, urging fans not to miss them. Dimento said that this was one of the goals when it came to God of War Ragnarok side quests, citing The Witcher 3 as one of his favorite games. “It seemed impossible, but it was literally the goal,” he said on Twitter.
According to some estimates, God of War Ragnarok contains about 20 hours of side quests that fans can play along with 20 hours of the main story, and for those who want to complete the game in 100% and get a platinum trophy, it will take about 70 hours or more. Assuming these estimates are correct, God of War Ragnarok’s side quests will be roughly on par with the main quest in terms of scope, so it certainly looks like Santa Monica has done its best with the game’s additional content.
Luckily, God of War fans will soon be able to play the new game for themselves and see everything the extensive spin-off content has to offer. Years after the game was first introduced to the world, God of War Ragnarok’s release is less than a week away, and soon PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 gamers will be able to experience the journey themselves.
